Age; 19

House; Freya
Power; Power Transfer

Personality;
Energetic, bright, and friendly, Alma could be regarded as the poster child for a well-adjusted 10-year-old. Despite his dreary home in the 6th Laboratory of the Black Order, and the painful experimentation that he was forced to endure, he remained cheerful, almost to a fault. His desire to spread that happiness seems to affect how he regards others, and while Alma has the best of intentions in wanting to befriend others, he can become resentful towards those who reject him. Yuu Kanda, for example, was famously put-off by Alma's obnoxious behavior, and the two clashed frequently, coming to blows more often than not. While Yuu was spurred on by annoyance and anger, Alma didn't hesitate to strike back, seeing Yuu as a gloomy, stubborn person who needed to open up - even if it meant having that beaten out of him. Even after slaughtering the entirity of the Sixth Laboratory, or waking up a decade later after being forced to relive his (almost) death and betrayal at the hands of Yuu Kanda, Alma's first reaction always seems to be a smile. While this could be regarded as a sign of legitimate psychosis, it's also evidence of how hard Alma seems to push himself to adhere to the personality that he maintains. He exhibits a tangible control over himself even when at first glance he appears to be losing his mind. Before attacking Yuu, he apologizes for his actions and tries to injure himself in order to regain control over his body -- in another instance, he asks Yuu about his life and friends while simultaneously trying to kill him.

As is probably obvious, Alma is an incredibly stubborn boy. He has a very clear notion of the things he wants and desires, and will go to insane lengths to make them reality. As a child, he tore off his own limbs to escape his restraints and save a young Yuu Kanda from being euthanised by the Black Order. When he reawakens as an adult, he aspires to kill Yuu not only as revenge, but also to ensure that Yuu will "belong to [him] forever". The ultimate manisfestation of his childish selfishness and stubbornness is his anger towards the Black Order for coming between Yuu and himself, which causes him to transform into an Akuma.

A part of the Second Exorcist project, Alma is the combination of an artificially constructed male body and the soul of a dead female exorcist. While Second Exorcists aren't aware of their former selves, and aren't meant to ever remember their past lives, both Alma and Yuu became aware of the nature of their existence independantly of one another. While Yuu's memories manifested through visions of his past self's death and the overwhelming desire to meet a woman he dreamt of regularly, Alma became more fully aware of his former life as the woman in Yuu's dreams. Up until his dying moments, Alma felt at war with his past life, terrified that Kanda would discover his past identity and abandon their current friendship and promise. This fear and dysphoria causes him to act in an incredibly contradictory manner, aiming to kill Yuu while simultaneously declaring that Yuu was "the one person I didn't want to lose".

Despite the fact that his body houses the soul of a dead exorcist, it's important to note that Alma and his past self are two very different people - while he is influenced by her soul's hopes, fears, and desires, he is also able to act independantly of her. When he finally passes away in Yuu's arms, his own self is pictured walking away hand-in-hand with the female exorcist's soul, reinforcing the notion that Alma Karma is his own, separate existence. Thus I feel that it's not a stretch to say that his feelings towards Yuu are not only the product of his soul's memories, but also the product of his own affection towards the boy.

As Alma is being taken post-death to Asgard, he'll be more at peace with himself, more the intelligent, bubbly boy that he was as a child, not completely consumed by his own fear, though there will still be remnants of his traumatic existence as an Akuma. Having been asleep for ten years, he may seem childish and developmentally retarded, but as he is capable of learning quickly, he'll adapt to Asgard quickly.

[The video feed pops on to an extreme close-up - there's nothing visible on the screen but the eye of a boy with a scar across his nose. The picture spins, then quickly pulls out as he leans away from the bracelet to laugh]

HEY, good morning everyone! Or is it afternoon? Night? I just woke up, so it should be morning, right? So then it's good morning!

[He's happy, not dumb. I promise.]

Oh, yeah, listen up cause I have a really important question, right!? I'm looking for someone named Yuu! His hair is like a mile long, and he looks grumpy a whole bunch--

[As he describes Kanda, he stretches his arms out to demonstrate the hyperbolized length of Kanda's hair, then uses his fingers to pull his face into a grumpy scowl]

'n he's always saying stuff like "LEAVE ME ALONE" or "GO DIE!" really loud, so he's really easy to notice! So if you see him or hear him or something, let me know, okay! He's my friend!

[and he grins again, completely earnest and yet somehow completely aware that he just described the exact opposite of "good friend"]
